Now is the time for America to embrace the immigrant community as a generator of tax revenue, jobs and growth

(Austin) — Representative Rafael Anchia applauds President Obama’s statement today renewing his commitment to comprehensive immigration reform and challenging Congress to enact legislation that reflects America’s values and aspirations.  “Today, with the President’s leadership, Americans are finally getting down to the common sense business of capitalizing upon one of the country’s great, unrecognized assets: our immigrant population.”

“I share the President’s view that immigration is a key ingredient of America’s own path to recovery and prosperity, ” Rep. Anchia said.  “The state of Texas, home to a thriving and dynamic economy, is a prime example of how immigrants fuel the engine of prosperity.”

Representative Anchia endorses bipartisan reform at the federal level that conforms to America’s core values, as well as measures that reunite families, promote the rule of law, and encourage immigrants trained in our institutions to remain in the United States and contribute to a prosperous economy. In addition, Rep. Anchia endorses passage of the Federal DREAM Act and creation of a guest worker program for undocumented immigrants who play by the rules.
